Spring 2022 Plans

To the Campus Community,

Happy New Year, all. I hope that your holiday break was restorative and productive in just the ratio you desired.

We made our way together through 2021 with hard work, patience, readiness and mutual support, both on-campus and off. With the emergence in late fall of the highly transmissible, if potentially less serious, Omicron variant, we are resigned to the reality that the early weeks of 2022 will not bring the hoped-for respite from the pandemic. Fortunately, 97 percent of our students, faculty and staff are vaccinated and many boosted, and we are grateful for greater preparation and capability on campus than ever before.

In this light, I write with plans for spring semester. Our determinations emerge from much deliberation in recent days—up to the minute in some cases—by members of our Covid readiness task forces, sub-committees, and cabinet. I am deeply grateful to these colleagues for their wise counsel and extraordinary investment of time.
